Toss it!

Salads can be healthy, speedy and… boring, if you don’t mix things up a bit every now and again. This weekend, I came across a gloriously quick, unique and inexpensive pseudo-gourmet product that did just that for my salad: Frieda’s Tomato Toss™.

The little bag that I found hanging above the salads in my local grocery store contains dried Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, onion, spinach, celery, bell pepper, spices and herbs. Add 1/2 cup of boiling water and let it sit for a couple of minutes, add to your usual salad and it creates a chewy, garlicky, spicy kick. I also added some slivered almonds for a crunch to balance out the chewiness of the dried tomatoes. Consider using a little less dressing as well, since the rehydrated mix adds some moisture to the salad (bonus calorie and fat saver!).

Besides salads, Frieda’s recommends using the toss on baked potatoes, soups, stuffings, pasta dishes, or pizza or focaccia bread. I can’t wait to try them all.
